COMBATING ONLINE MISINFORMATION

The Combating Online Misinformation report provides a policy and regulatory roadmap offering practical strategies and harmonized guidelines to help nations build resilient information ecosystems and address the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age, intensified by events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and migration crises, and other  recent regional crisis and its impact on public health, trust, social cohesion, democracy, civilian digital ecosystems,  and the digital economy.

To develop these guidelines document, DCO General Secretariat conducted a comprehensive literature review of over 100 national legal frameworks and international strategies; in-depth analysis of databases covering 80+ tools and 270 interventions; mapping and categorization of laws, penalties, strategic interventions, and standards  that are crucial for ensuring consistency, accountability, and fairness in combatting misinformation.

This guidelines document concludes that effectively addressing misinformation requires integrated policy and regulatory frameworks, including Strategy, legal norms, and standards, aimed at strengthening secure, resilient and trustworthy digital societies.
